SHERMAN, Tex. -- It's official. At least 800 Sherman ISD students will be switching schools in August.

School Board members approved an attendance re-zoning plan Monday night. The proposal passed by a vote of seven to zero and the new zoning will take effect in August.

Superintendent Al Hambrick says the zoning changes determine which children will attend the new elementary schools, and will allow many children to attend class closer to home.

He says rezoning talks started in 2005 and a lot of thought has gone into the plans. Hambrick says the zones are very fair and so far the parents he's talked with have been supportive of the changes.

"All of our students will get a great education regardless of the school they attend. We have consistent curriculum, we also have some consistent initiatives that we've planned in regard to staff development and staff training," said Hambrick.

I would like to know more about the plans for the Sherman ISD Pre-K program. I have heard that it will only be available at three campuses - meaning children will be bused in from other locations. Superintendent Al Hambrick stated that with the rezoning, students would attend a school closer to their home but the plans for Pre-K contradict his statement. For parents with a Pre-K child and an older elementary child, their children would be split and attend seperate campuses.
