An exciting day is being planned for Ardmore’s 16th annual Earth 1st Expo. BancFirst, KICM, OG&E and Ardmore Beautification Council are sponsoring the event. It will at 310 W. Main Street, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20. The Earth 1st Expo, a family oriented environmental fair, is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. According to Barbara Santee, event chair, “There will be something for everyone to enjoy! From recycling, to some great things to buy for your garden this spring, to environmental displays, wonderful entertainment for the whole family, and hands-on crafts for the children. It will be a busy day for all that attend.” Santee mentioned Builder Bob’s is providing a beautiful table with 6 chairs made of repurposed wood. We appreciate Bob Crittendon’s generosity for this terrific door prize and you don’t need to be present to win.”
The following items will be accepted for recycling: tires (no commercial tires or tires with rims), cell phones, batteries from lawnmowers, and vehicles, soda cans, furniture, household items, clothing (in resalable condition), ink cartridges, and E-Waste (anything that plugs in). Volunteers will assist in unloading vehicles bringing recyclables.
Continuous entertainment and door prizes are scheduled throughout the event to keep the crowd’s interest. Derek Harris plus many others will provide quality performances.
The annual plant swap will take place on the north side of the bank plaza. People should bring their plants marked with the common name as well as sun, shade and water requirements. The plant swap allows gardeners to share what is growing in their yards and to receive new plants they would enjoy trying out.
Many garden related items will be for sale from bedding plants, trees, to beautiful springbaskets of flowers. OGE is sponsoring the sale of crape myrtle shrubs for $5 each. According to Santee, “The crape myrtles continue to be a very popular item. We will start the sale promptly at 10:00 a.m.” New sales vendors will bring their wares, from recycled items, bird houses, tote bags, herbal teas, soaps, t-shirts, carpet cleaning supplies, refurbished electronics, to wooden crosses, that will be of interest to everyone.
The City of Ardmore Water Pollution Dept.’s display will feature the recycling of biosolids and wood chips and samples of the compost they make. Extreme Animals will be back with their critters that will be of special interest to children.
Various environmental-related mascots will mingle through the crowd and food will be sold throughout the event. According to sponsors the Earth 1st Expo will again be a “tobacco-free” and “litter-free” event as a way to encourage everyone to respect and care for our natural resources.
