GAINESVILLE, Tex. -- Friday was an exciting day for students at Lee Intermediate School in Gainesville. Students presented their annual program to Medal of Honor recipients. Stephanie Brletic reports.

There are only 105 Medal of Honor recipients still living and eleven of them were at Lee Intermediate on Friday afternoon. The event is just one of many planned to honor these veterans.

One by one, children filed into the gymnasium anxious to see the program come to life they each worked hard to help prepare. One Medal of Honor recipient says he enjoys these events and says receiving the medal changed his life.

"I’ve been so fortunate in my life to have received the benefits just like this, like today. I would've not had an opportunity to come to a class and talk to a group of young folks," Medal of Honor recipient Woody Williams said.

Williams say when he talks to students he likes to tell them how lucky they are to be born in this country, where life and freedom are guarantees.
