SHERMAN, Tex. -- The results are in for the battle of the badges in Sherman, and for the second year in a row, the fire department takes the top spot.

The fire crew received 159 votes over the past couple of days. That edged out the police department by just seven, who picked up 152.

Officials with the Texoma Regional Blood Center say they were able to collect a record 268 pints over the two days. That will affect approximately 804 lives.

Officials say the next battle of the badges event is scheduled for June in Bonham.

Hats off to the SFD for winning, and all those who donated. Thanks to you, blood and blood products will be available to help save lives in the area- even the lives of those who post stupid comments (oh hi Anonymous........you gutless wonder). Perhaps the Sherman Police Department needs to ask Texoma Regional Blood Center to serve donuts with the post-donation juice......just kidding, fellas.

To all the decent, caring people who donated blood at this blood drive - thank you! It was a fun event of police vs. fire and the sole purpose of it was to allow the community to join in the fun and donate their blood to save the lives of others. Because of the donations made by each of you over 800 people will have their lives affected in a positive way. You are to be commended for you unselfish donation of life!

A cop photo op? That statement is so dumb it's laughable. More than likely you don't like it because you have been the subject of a 'cop photo op' yourself when they used you as the opportunity to take a mug shot of your face. But don't worry, when you do something stupid that puts you in a life threatening position, car wreck or whatever, the cops and paramedics will be there to save you stupid a** - and your life just may be saved by giving you some of the blood they donated themselves!

Cool! I'll have to watch for this again next year... I'm 6 months pregnant right now and cannot donate blood!

I drove 70 miles to donate and vote for the Sherman Police Dept and would do it again tomorrow. It's a great thing this "battle", when in truth they are working as a team to save lives on and off the job.
