WHITESBORO, Tex. -- Athletes from across Grayson County participated in the Special Olympics track meet Friday morning in Whitesboro.

The high school track was filled with students from Sherman, Whitesboro, and all of Grayson County. Around 150 athletes participated.

After the students finished their events, they were given awards, and, organizers say, a sense of pride.

"The kids all love it. They receive awards from ribbons to medals. It’s just really a great thing because they can’t get out and play basketball and other sports with their other peers," Kristy Parks with Whitesboro Special Olympics said.

The student-athletes will now move on to the regional competition in the next couple of weeks.
