BONHAM, Tex. -- The city of Bonham could soon expand its sports complex to include more soccer fields.

City leaders are scheduled to discuss the possible expansion with Fannin County leaders at Monday’s commissioners’ court meeting.

The current baseball and softball fields off Silo Road are surrounded by property owned by the county.

City officials say they understand the growing interest in the game of soccer amongst youngsters, and they want to help.

"For the people that come to our community its going to be that they are used to recreational opportunities in other places so we have to rise and meet that need and really become a community that people love to live in," Bonham city manager Corby Alexander says.

Soccer games are currently being played wherever teams can find some free space.
