GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- Sherman and Denison High Schools have once again ranked among the top high schools in the nation. Newsweek Magazine has released a list of the top 1,300 schools in the nation, and both high schools made the cut.

Denison came in at 1,033 and Sherman came in at 1,040. The rankings are based on how well students performed on Advanced Placement tests.

Officials in both districts are excited to have made the grade.

"I think it’s just a testament to the hard work of our staff and our students and our parents, so we're very pleased to hear this news, and I think it’s just great for the entire community," Sherman ISD superintendent Dr. Al Hambrick said.

Denison ISD superintendent Dr. Henry Scott was equally proud of his high school.

"They’re doing good work, and we're doing good work, so we're not in competition when it comes to something like unless we're playing football and we're keeping score, then we are in competition."

The magazine compared more than 27,000 high schools across the nation.
