Theresa Hutchinson and Jason Deets at Sherman Parks and Recreation talked to Lisanne today at noon about upcoming summer events in Sherman.

Fishing Derby
Sat. June 7th
8am - 12noon
Herman Baker Park

Bring the entire family out for a day of fishing at Herman Baker Park. Children ages 16 and under will compete in contest for Big Fish, Small Fish, Casting, and Heaviest String of 5 fish. All participants will also receive a free hot dog lunch and be eligible for several door prizes provided by Sherman Wal-Mart.

Dance Like the Stars Ballroom Dancing
Thursdays June 5 - July 31st
$40 per person

As seen on TV. Learn the basic smooth and Latin styles of ballroom dancing. In this class, participants will learn The Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, Swing, Cha Cha, and Rumba. Amy West, a competitive ballroom dancer and instructor will teach participants to dance like the stars. No partner needed.

Along with the Sherman Library, Parks and Recreation hosts a variety of entertainers each Monday at 2:00pm in the Municipal Ballroom. Each entertainer provides an educational and fun performance especially for kids. There is no cost for these performances. Popcorn and drinks are available for a small fee. Please refer to the following schedule for program information.

Baba Kwasi along with audience participation, storytelling, African drums and other instruments, demonstrate basic principals of sound and vibration.

Popular local children’s theatre group will be on hand to put on an exciting performance

Critterman-June 30
Critterman is back to bring us a special program where we will meet animals from around the world.

The World is a Rainbow-July 7
Multicultural stories and music to celebrate our global family! Dorayne Poklikuha will play the djembe drum, didgeridoo, and Native American flute.

Chicken Dog-July 14
A pirate story with circus elements, such as dog tricks, unicycling, and puppets, woven throughout.

Exotic Animal University-July 21
Learn about conservation with an interesting program with live animals and unusual artifacts.

Suitcase Science Show-July 28
Dal Sanders will perform a startling, exciting and amazing magic show.

L.A. Hudson-August 4
L.A has been entertaining audiences for more than 50 years with his ventriloquist act.

    They charge too much for these classes. It's just not worth it!
