SHERMAN, Tex. -- Calling all bargain hunters! Cities along Highways 82 and 287 are gearing up for one of the biggest garage sales the area has ever seen.

The Red River Valley Tourism Association is hosting a 350-mile-long yard sale that spans from as far east as Clarksville to as far west as Seymour.

Each city has been asked to come up with an idea to get shoppers out and about, looking for all sorts of knickknacks along the way.

Tourism officials in Sherman have set up booths on the courthouse lawn, and they are inviting everyone out to enjoy the unique shopping.

"You never know what someone wants. It’s just fun for a lot of people. That concept is fun, and everyone is looking for a bargain, and you dig through stuff and you don’t know what you'll find," Shawnda Raines at the Sherman Tourism Office says.

The yard sale kicked off Friday and will go through Saturday.

Now that was a really well-thought-out statement. Where'd you learn that- in a Dallas school? Whadda maroon. We can do without your kind here.

I'm not a new resident. And if you look around we got plenty of panhandlers here in town. As long as the hicks keep giving 'em money, they're not gonna go anywhere. This town is soooo odd...

To Transplant from Big D: if you miss city life, we can go down to Dallas, get a couple of panhandlers, and drop them off at your door. Just tell us your address, and we'll get on it. Whatever it takes to make our new residents happy........

If you think it's such a dumb idea guess we won't see you there....Oh well! I happen to like garage sales & flea markets, I have been to a 150 mile garage sale before in another state. It was really fun & I got some great buys.

I do feel dissapointed frequently in Sherman. Not alot going on...The Chamber needs to be more creative. Just look at downtown. We miss Ginger Nye! She was the tourism lady, and she was the best! The music was alot better at Hot Summer Nights when she had charge of the lineup. She knew her music. I've been here for over 20 years, and the best thing to happen to Sherman in ALL that time was when Target was built. I'm all for living in a small town, but we need more stuff going on...

Me and some friends went to the sale. Started downtown Sherman (which was a flop) and drove to Nocona. We did not see any sales, until we got to St.Jo and they were having their town annual sale. We drove downtown Whitesboro and they said, no one promoted it in their town. The once a month sale on the courthouse lawn has really gone down hill.

I can't believe you guy's feel this way about your town. You should be trying to support it instead of running it down. A lot of work is put into trying to keep our towns going. I appreciate the effort that's put into keeping our towns alive. The Chamber of Commerce works all the time trying to do this.

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. They have that worthless sale all the time at the Grayson courthouse. That's just killing two birds with one stone! Sherman tourism needs to try alot harder!!! This area is lame, lame, lame!
