Texoma Regional Blood Center needs donors

If your blood type is A-Negative or O-Negative, the Texoma Regional Blood Center needs your help to save a life. They are in critical need of A-Negative and O-Negative blood. Overnight, their supply was completely used up, and the shelves were empty Thursday morning.

Five area hospitals depend on the blood center for that blood, and while they can call on other centers to share supplies, blood banks nationwide are facing the same shortages.

The Texoma Regional Blood Center will be at the North Texas Medical Center tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

KXII-TV is also proud to take part in an annual blood drive with the center. That will be on July 3, and the blood center's Sherman location on Texoma Parkway is open until 5:30 p.m.

For locations and more information, check http://www.texomablood.org.

To Anonymous: I am very glad that you are going to be un-selfish and help with our blood shortage! Just to let you know that type A positive blood is one of the most common blood types! O positive is another very common blood type! The RH negative blood types are the rare ones. But it does not matter what blood type you have we are very happy to have it in stock b/c you never know what can happen. But remember just one pint of blood (which is what we take) can save atleast 3 people's life. And a newborn baby only has 1 cup of blood in their entire body and it only takes 1 teaspoon to save their life! I wish there were more people in the world that would donate blood to help others that are in need. Hope your donation with us went GREAT and I hope that you will be back to SHARE THE GIFT OF LIFE!!!!!!!

i think it is sad that people are asked just to give their blood and organs away for free. these things are some of the most complex, rare, and valuable things in the known universe. Doctors and hospitals don't give away free surguries, EVER. and man hours or hospital parts are NOTHING compared to the miracle of life.

From: Stacy Means, Technical Director of Texoma Regional Blood Center. The blood center is always in need of ALL blood types. This extreme shortage of A-neg and O-neg was caused by increased usage. All demands for blood were met during the increased usage. We need to re-stock our supply to maintain our constant state of "ready for any type of increased need". The residents of our local counties have rallied to help the center. All blood collected by TRBC stays in the 3 counties of Fannin, Grayson and Cooke. We are regulated by the FDA. The FDA creates guidelines that they feel will ensure the safety and integrity of the nation's blood supply.Granted these guidelines can defer seemingly healthy donors, the FDA makes the rules and we must follow the rules. If you have been deferred, you can still help by encouraging others to donate. Please visit our website for upcoming drives, www.texomablood.org

to casey: they blood center does blood drives all the time all over the county, you can call the center and find out where they are going to be coming up. and to Anonymous, you are what's wrong with the world today! why do people always want something for helping? you get cookies, juice/water and a shirt. now you want money too! ugh. you might need blood one day and will feel really bad b/c someone was tehre to help you even though you wouldn't help them. want am i thinking that would take compassion and apparently you have none!

I have never given blood, but I would love to so I can help someone in need. If it were me that needed the blood, I would hate to hear they were completely out of my type and I would just lay there and die. I am A- which I believe is a rare blood type. So, I will be going this month for the first time to give blood and I will probably go twice a year to help save a life.!!!

That is what is wrong with people these days. Everyone is willing to do anything for a little money. Why can't people just be helpful and not expect anything in return? Giving blood could actually save someones life, maybe even someone you know.

With the increase of drug abuse, there are fewer eligible donors. I am a healthy, willing donor. However, because my husband used IV drugs twenty years ago, I am deemed ineligible. Before long there will be no more eligible donors.

If they would pay you money to give blood, I believe more people would.
