DENTON COUNTY, Tex. -- Denton County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be working overtime to increase DWI and impaired driving enforcement during the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo and through Labor Day. The increased patrols begin Friday, Aug. 15, and will be conducted at various times through Labor Day, Sept. 1.
Overtime hours for the deputies will be paid for by grants from the Texas Department of Transportation’s Impaired Driving Mobilization Grant. The department received the grants earlier this year to conduct sustained DWI enforcement operations during holiday periods as part of the statewide “Drink. Drive. Go to jail.” campaign.
“With the rodeo and the last big holiday of the summer coming up, more people will be on the roads, and traffic accidents always increase as a result,” said Patrol Sergeant Doug Lee. “We intend to strictly enforce the laws to prevent accidents and make the roads safer for everyone.”
