Last October, more than 200 young Ardmoreites gathered to attend the Ardmore Young Professionals Organization’s Mega Mixer ‘07. Throughout the year, the organization continued building on the past year’s efforts of community service, sponsored forums, and monthly socials to allow tomorrow’s leaders to form their own business networks.
On Thursday, October 23, at The Ardmore Convention Center AYPO’s will gather for Mega Mixer ’08. This will be a time of renewing old friendships while making new ones.
According to 2008 AYPO Chairman, Chris Bryant, “The Ardmore Young Professionals Organization was formed in 2006 to help the younger generation of Ardmore. For 2008 we have accomplished more than we ever thought we would. We now have a membership of over 250 people who are dedicated to helping and accept that we need change in order to keep Ardmore a thriving city and keep Ardmoreites here with good jobs and great opportunities.”
“With Programs like Adopt a Spot, Prom Dress Drives, School Supply Drives, we, as Ardmore Young Professionals, can make a difference in the life of someone we don’t even know,” continued Bryant.
“The Ardmore Young Professional Organization has established a Voters Registration group that went to our local high schools to register numerous students that were old enough to vote and didn’t realize it. Through this effort, we registered 60 new voters. We also established a scholarship program for kids that don’t have the financial means to go to school. As the 2008 Chair of the Ardmore Young Professionals Organization I challenge everyone who is NOT apart of this organization to at least check us out and help make a difference; help make someone’s life better or even change someone’s life for the better.”
This year’s event will be a chance for community members to take advantage of the great networking as well as learn about issues that affect them daily. The format will include the following: “Speed Networking” rounds in which participants have the opportunity to meet many attendees in a short amount of time. The next portion will consist of four “Topic rooms” in which participants get the opportunity to ask questions of experts in four areas of interest to Young People: “Meet the Candidates,” “What is AYPO…where do we go from here?,” “Bettering Ardmore,” and “A Greener Ardmore.”
After the topic rooms, the night will conclude with a more traditional “Social Hour” in which young professionals will have a chance to visit further with the people they met during the evening. There will be numerous door prizes as well as food and drink.
“I am very excited that we are hosting our 3rd Mega Mixer,” stated AYPO chairman-elect, Kerri Lowe.
“I remember being so nervous the first year about going and talking to so many people. I ended up having a lot of fun and meeting more people than I had at any event previously attended in Ardmore. I have met over fifty new people each year, and have been impressed with how much this organization has grown and improved. I see AYPO continuing to grow and to positively impact our town. I look forward to seeing many new faces this year.”
The event runs from 6 to 9 on Thursday, October 23 at the Ardmore Convention Center. There is no cost to attend, but RSVP’s are necessary and may be made by calling the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce at 223.6162. Deadline for RSVP’s is Tuesday, Oct 21st.
