BELLS, TX― After 45 years of service, well-known banker Shirley Mullinix is bidding farewell.

Mullinix was the first female bank president in North Texas when she took the helm at First National Bank of Bells and Savoy in 1984.

The City of Bells recognized Shirley’s contributions to the community by proclaiming Friday as Shirley Mullinix Day.

She says despite the current economic conditions, the bank is strong and has weathered storms in the past

"Then in 1984 they asked if I’d take over the bank, that’s when the real estate problem was around and, so I did, and we just worked right through it," Mullinix said.

Mullinix plans to remain active at the bank in her role as chairman of the board.

She any kin to this fine young man? "Durant police say in May of 2007, Bussey and another man, Bobby Don Mullinix, killed 27-year-old Tristan Ace York at a Durant home and then dumped his body in Lake Texoma." It is about time she is gone, maybe more people will start using the bank again. hopefully she is retiring in Florida. Good luck!
