TAPS expected to receive additional funding

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX ― TAPS could be getting more money from the Federal Transit Administration.

Bob Wood, the transportation director with the Texoma Council of Governments, says TCOG receives a grant for $1 million specifically for the transportation needs of Sherman and Denison residents.

Wood says they have decided to give all the grant money over to TAPS for bus maintenance, driver training, and payroll.

"Not only does it serve everyone no matter what your economic class is, it provides public transportation to everyone but also it provides for people with some kind of special needs. Most of our buses are handicapped equipped." metropolitan planning director Bob Wood said.

Approval for the change is expected by Monday.

If possible, Nick, I go around them as fast as possible. You should have an orange license plate if you are not employed and you should have to pull over and get off the road between 6 and 9 am and 4 and 6 pm. Let us that pay your way get by.

Harold, have you ever heard of leaving to go to work with plenty of time to get there. There's always something that's going to slow you down, you're sounding like someone with road rage.Really, what do you do about seniors on the road - scare the heck out of them as you go blaring by? I'M LATE FOR WORK, EVERYONE GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!!

Harold, do you know for a fact the people onboard are not on their way to work?Doctor? I do know that they have helped many, many people keep appointments that they couldn't have kept, had it not been for them.On a 2 lane street they may be slow, but the Taps drivers are careful to keep to the right on the freeway, and on streets that handles 4 lanes. They are doing a MUCH needed service, and deserve our respect. I am glad they got a "peice of the pie".

We just like to buy yarn so we will have something to keep us occupied during dialysis.

Myself and other drivers going to work wish you would MOVE OVER. Some of us have a job with a schedule, we're not riding to the Snap Center or to buy yarn.

Myself and the other riders I know really appreciate TAPS, we don't know what we would do without them. No, their not perfect, but we know they really care about us.That goes for all the drivers and dispatchers- they all put forth a great effort. 'THANKS'

Now...if they could only find a way to be on time. Heck...even within 15 minutes!

Thank You TCOG! It's good to hear some good news for a change! Other government agencies who benefit from our tax dollars should do the same! Make sure TAPS and meals on wheels don't go under; PLEASE!
