GAINESVILLE, TX ― A week-long celebration begins Monday in Gainesville, the host city of the Medal of Honor Week.

For the last seven years, Gainesville has been home to this title. There are only 98 Medal of Honor recipients in the nation, and this year twelve of them will be right here in Texoma.

Recipients will talk to students across the county about patriotism, and a parade will be held in their honor.

Gainesville’s Medal of Honor Host City Program was established in 2001 by a group of volunteers seeking a unique way to show the community’s respect and appreciation for the service of America’s veterans.

We should honor these and any Medal of Honor reciepiants. Most know little of the things these brave men have done or seen. I salute each and every one of you upstanding citizens of the United States. Hooah!
