GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. ― Grayson County Judge Drue Bynum on Monday declared April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The Grayson County Children's Advocacy Center will devote the month to educating parents about preventing child abuse and what options families have if a child has been abused.
Child advocates in Grayson County say they are seeing more abused kids than ever before, and that the economic recession could be partly to blame.
"People are getting frustrated, they are out of jobs, they don’t know what to do, and they lash out at someone who is smaller and can’t fend for themselves," Martha Knuckols at the Child Advocacy Center says.
The Children's Advocacy Center is also hosting a sock hop fundraiser on April 24. All proceeds will go toward education programs.
