“The Global Investment Landscape” Is Focus of Upcoming Austin College Lecture

SHERMAN, TEXAS — Kirk Rimer, a managing director of Goldman Sachs, will present “The Global Investment Landscape: Then and Now” as the Austin College 2009 Williams Executive-in-Residence lecturer on September 17 at 11 a.m. in Mabee Hall of Wright Campus Center. The lecture is free and open to the public. Attendees may obtain lunch in the Austin College dining hall and carry their tray to Mabee Hall for the presentation.

In addition to serving as a managing director, Rimer is the Southwest regional manager for the Private Wealth Management Division at Goldman Sachs. The Southwest region includes more than 40 private wealth advisors and has in excess of $15 billion of assets under management. Throughout his career at Goldman Sachs, Rimer has worked with individual investors and corporations, with a focus on risk management and equity investments. He joined the firm in 1989.

Rimer also sits on the board of the UPLIFT Foundation, which specializes in developing charter schools in Dallas, and on the Development Committee for Children's Hospital of Dallas. He also is a member of the Advisory Board of the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business. Rimer earned a master’s in business administration degree from Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in 1980. Upon graduation, he received his commission in the U.S. Navy and served as a naval aviator for nine years.

The Williams Executive-in-Residence Series was established in 2007 by Austin College alumnus Todd Williams, 1984 graduate, and his wife, Abby, as a means to mentor students. “I was a tremendous beneficiary of professors and alumni mentors telling me about doors that I could open when I didn't even know a door was there,” Todd said, “and its our sincere goal to help provide this same benefit for others at the College."

David Griffith, associate professor of business administration, is coordinating this fall’s event.
