Sherman, TX - Hundreds of people got in touch with their artistic side today at this year's 27th annual Sherman Arts Festival.

The Sherman Municipal Lawn was covered with more than 100 arts, crafts and food vendors from all over Texoma.

Various musical groups provided many types of entertainment throughout the day. And festival workers say the event isn't simply about art, but benefiting the entire community.

"It's just outstanding, it's a true volunteer activity, we are non-profits, none of us try to make a profit off this, and as a result it's a volunteer activity that's good for the community and the community is good for us because of that,” said Larry Wall, Chairman of the Arts Festival.

Wall said this was one of the most successful festivals they’ve had, mainly due to the wide variety of creativity demonstrated by local artists.

There was a judged art show and sale for ages 18 and up, youth art show, woodcarving show and sale, Fun Runs, pumpkin patch and face painting of the kids.

I am a local artist,I create metal art work sold all over the world and I was featured for the Arts Fest a few years back on the KXII Morning Show through Sue Malory, I told I was one of several featured artist at the Festival-only to show up and be put outside of the Municipal building where the Artist was told to be setting up but put next to a popcorn vendor and a woman who made earrings out of feathers...It was insulting and I was disgusted by my treatment as should any artist, and I will not waste my time again, at any Sherman Craft Show. If you are a country home crafter and like to sell your junk , you'll love next years Arts Fest.

This event should be renamed as the Sherman Crafts Festival. There is an art show associated with the evnt, but the vast majority of vendors offer crafts, not art.

Arts Fest was great this year - there were lots of vendors and I got some of the BEST homemade soap I have ever used (it was at a booth called All Washed Up Soap Company)! The only regret I found was that the Hispanic Heritage part was up at the square again instead of joining Arts Fest. I go to it every year, but I didn't this year. It was too far to walk and carry all the stuff I bought at Arts Fest, and with all the roads closed around the square parking was ridiculous, so I passed on attending the Hispanic part of Arts Fest. Why can't they also set up at the Municipal Building so that everyone is at one location? They would get more business because everyone would be able to partake of both the Arts Fest vendors and the Hispanic Heritage vendors at one location.

I worked at the CannonBall Clogging booth with the pumpkins and it was great.Alot of people out there buying and selling. We are there every year and even though it takes along time doing the painted pumpkins we all love it. We look forward to it every year.
