DURANT, OK -- Friends, family, and co-workers have organized a benefit dinner tonight for a Durant police officer seriously injured in a pursuit last month.

Back on September 26th, Officer Justin Blackshear was trying to catch up on a pursuit of 44-year-old Linston Gilbeau when he lost control of his cruiser and struck a tree. Blackshear was careflighted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas and has been recovering ever since.

The Durant Police Department said this morning that Blackshear had just undergone surgery on his arm and some skin grafts, but that there was a possibility he could be released next week.

Jim: I hope they don't drive so fast if you ever need emergency help. These men are doing their best to help their community and yes it is a dangerous profession with no room for error. Things like this will happen, it is part of the risk these men take for you. God bless them all.

That POS Linston Gilbeau should pay all of the officer's medical bills.
