DENISON, TX - One local agency stepped up the fight against heart disease this morning in Denison.

The goal of the 'Go Red for Women' luncheon is to show that just as many women suffer from heart disease as men.

Free cholesterol screenings were offered at today's event, sponsored by Victory Home Health and Hospice and the American Heart Association, and the audience heard from both a heart disease survivor and a cardiologist about the dangers of heart disease.

"The truth is, as many women have heart disease as men, so this event just brings up the importance of heart health in women," Judy Bolen at Victory Home Health and Hospice says.

According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.
