Nearly 100 Carter Co. seniors receive food boxes

ARDMORE, OK - Senior citizens in Ardmore received boxes of food, thanks to a program sponsored by the Southern Oklahoma Nutrition Program.

Representatives from the SONP passed out boxes to 91 residents of Ardmore Village Senior Living facility Monday. The boxes contain 25 pounds of food ranging from fruit juice to dry cereal.

The giveaway happens once a month, and is available to any senior citizen 60 years or older who meets the income requirement.

Members of the SONP say programs like these are essential to some elderly residents who are on a fixed budget and have trouble buying food.

"When you see that need being met in your own back door it is such a blessing to know your able to help the seniors and the people in your own community," Rebecca Williams with SONP said.

Anyone interested in the program can apply at the Southern Oklahoma Nutrition Office in Wilson at (580) 668-3128 or in Marietta at (580) 276-5475.
