GAINESVILLE, Tex. -- The city of Gainesville will be getting a helping hand cleaning up. We told you about this story last week. The Henkel brand, a German company that makes Dial soaps, held a contest to bring $25,000 clean-up effort to a deserving community.

Lorrie Grewing of Gainesville wrote an essay entering the city, and many of you voted for the Cooke County town hit hard by early summer flooding.

She says she wants a visit from the soap company to help Gainesville pick up after so much was lost.

Gainesville beat out two other cities; one is in New York and the other in Virginia.

Now the Henkel brand’s "Like a Friend" crew is scheduled to be in Gainesville on September 26th to help clean up after June’s devastating flood.

Here's the link to check it out:

Praise God that Gainesville won this contest. That city certainly deserved this award after all they have been through. The flood was horrible and I am happy they won this contest!

To all of you that just want to say bad things, I live in G'ville and not a native. I think those of you who want to say all these things, yes we do need help on all the drugs, gangs and so on... BUT for those of you who lost nothing in that Flood, go get a life!!! I lost everything i owned and am PROUD that someone outside wants to help.. This isnt about the crime we have. Its to help with a disaster that no one could have prevented. The rest of the problems can be controlled.. The system just needs your help. CONCERNED CITIZENS is what this town needs. Not turn the other way citizens and hope it doesn't come your way

Kudos to this woman who cared enough about her town to write an essay and get help. She should be commended! What a wonderful thing she did!

Gainesville once was a beautiful town. Even if they do win this clean up, you can bet your bottom dollar it will be used on things like that old depot or some other land mark the town keeps wasting money on. Our parks are in terrible shape. The baseball fields are a shameful sight, not to include a law suit waiting to happen. There is no clean place to take a child out for a walk in the town. Those who sit high in the town will secure a brick on an old building before making anything better for the town. The flood was a tragic event, but all this woman did was add more money into the greedy pockets of the men and woman who oversee Gainesville. The education system is dreadful and the test scores prove it. So go on Gainesville... PUT THAT MONEY WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTED! Something for the children of this town!

I'm sorry for what happened with the flood and I hope they can clean it up and repair it. But on another note, with the crime in a town of only 17000 to be comparable to a town more than double it's size, the only way to clean Gainesville up is to drop a bomb on it.

It is wonderful that Gainesville is in the top three without hope there is nothing. The negative comments about our city is very sad and it sounds as you people need to form your citizen patrol groups. Search the internet and you can find out how to get them started as they do not start up alone. All cities and communities have the good and the bad and if you look hard enough you will find more good than bad in our city.

Everybody should include the link in their email and forward it to everyone they know. If everybody in Texomaland did this and voted, Gainesville will win. DO IT!
