SHERMAN, TX - Bring the kids and bring the lawn chairs! Max Stalling, will kick off this year’s Hot Summer Nights concert series in Sherman on Thursday, June 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Oliver Dewey Mayor Gazebo Stage.
Stalling, known as “Smooth Max” among Texas-music lovers, is a breath of fresh air in the country music scene. Known for hits such as “Runnin’ Buddy” and “Simple Girl”, his music shows that he views himself as a songwriter first and as a performer a distant second. Stalling’s Web site points out that this tidbit might come as a surprise to the multitudes of loyal fans that regularly attend his crowded shows.
Residents and visitors alike enjoy coming back to Hot Summer Nights year after year. It’s the perfect combination of town and country; a quaint, North Texas setting coupled with high-caliber musical talent. It’s become a favorite Sherman tradition because of its casual attitude, Southern hospitality, and excellent sounds. Another attractive factor: All performances are free!
If concert-goers want to bring a picnic, go right ahead. Beverages should be family friendly because the event is held on city property. No time to pack a picnic? No worries – the Lions Club concessions trailer has plenty of hot dogs, popcorn, stuffed peppers, snow cones, and cold drinks available each week. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets because most seating available is on the Municipal Lawn.
Kids can take their turn in the free bounce house, courtesy of local television station KXII; there will be face painting and balloon animals available for a small fee. KXII will also give away four tickets every week to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels.
This year, Oncor will host “Take a Load Off, Texas®” on July 15, featuring free exhibits where you and your family can learn simple, energy-saving tips for your home. Hometown favorite Spur 503 will perform that night. In the past several years, Spur 503 has attracted the largest crowd during the 2-month event, but not just because they are local favorites – they’re talented, entertaining, and fun!
The Bob Utter Car Show, featuring the Bob Utter Ford-Lincoln-Mercury-Kia
dealership, will be held on the last concert date, July 29. Not only is this a great venue for the car show, The Project will perform Motown and top-40 favorites befitting the cars on display.
The concerts are every Thursday in June and July (except July 1) at the Oliver Dewey Mayor Gazebo Stage and Municipal Lawn in Sherman (405 N. Rusk). The music always starts at 7:30 p.m.
