DENISON, TX - Giving back never tasted so good at this year's 14th annual Taste of Texoma. It was not only a great family event this Memorial Day, but also helps local kids.

For years now the Boys and Girls club has put on what some would say is the ultimate cookout.

"Memorial Day is about remembrance and family and what greater opportunity than to come to downtown Denison for the Memorial Day Parade, where you can spend time with family and sample food from 12 great restaurants,” said Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Patrick Guarino.

But Taste of Texoma is more than just delicious food and family fun, it’s also about community outreach and helping out our local kids. So this Memorial Day, hundreds of people gathered from all over Texoma to give back.

"That's what life is all about anyway helping other people,” said Stan Keece, who used to be a board member of the Boys and Girls Club.

Keece says he thinks it’s important to not only think about celebrating this memorial day, but also doing good.

"And that's really what it's all about. We don't need a lot of money from one person, we need a little bit of money from every person,” said Guarino.

Taste of Texoma is the Boys and Girls Club major fundraiser, bringing in about $10,000 every year to provide summer programs for kids.

"And with about a hundred children a day coming into the club we need all the help we can get,” said Guarino.

That's why Keece says he used to help with club. And as an army veteran from the Korean War, he made sure this community fundraiser was part of his Memorial Day tradition.

"We remember all of those who have died for us... I think everybody hopefully remembers that this is Memorial Day, not just a holiday,” said Keece.

For those with the Boys and Girls Club, using their day off to give back is the best way to spend their Memorial Day holiday.

"Growing up I had people in my life that made a difference in me and turned my life around. And that's really what I want to do with all the kids that come to the Boys and Girls club,” said Guarino.
