Don't miss out on Sherman's first-ever Independence Day celebration!
The completion of Phase II of Pecan Grove Park & Amphitheater is the culmination of hard work on the part of elected officials and city staff for more than two decades. The City Council, City Administration, and Parks & Recreation Department want to welcome the community to its newest park by celebrating Independence Day at the grand opening!
- The Mayor, City Council, and City Administration will kick off the family-friendly festivities with a Ribbon Cutting for Phase II of Pecan Grove Park & Amphitheater
- The Ida Road Band will play immediately after the Ribbon Cutting
- Texas singer-songwriter Deryl Dodd will headline the concert, and begin playing between 8-8:30 p.m.
- Fireworks show begins at approximately 9:30 p.m./after nightfall (the pyrotech company puts on similar shows for cities all over the Metroplex - IT’S GONNA BE BIG!)
- Feel free to bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets
- Some concessions will be available
ALL PARKING IS FREE, AND PARKING WILL BE LIMITED AT THE PARK!!!
TAPS is this year's parking sponsor, and they'll run FREE continuous routes to-and-from each overflow parking lot before and after the event. If you choose to bring lawn chairs, coolers, or other similar items, taking the TAPS bus will make your trip to the park much easier! All TAPS buses will have handicap access.
- Parking is available on two grass lots at the entrance to the park on Canyon Creek Drive
- Sherman Bible Church and Faith Church have graciously allowed us to use their lots for overflow parking
- The grass lot at the northwest corner of Lamberth and FM 1417 will also be used for overflow parking

Third Annual Melissa Celebration of Freedom
The Melissa Area Chamber of Commerce will host its third annual Celebration of Freedom Saturday, July 3. The parade will start at 6 p.m. (5:30 lineup) and the children’s area will open at 6:30. With a $5 wrist band, a child will be permitted to jump in the bounce houses, slide on the slides, ride the trackless train and go through the obstacle course for the entire evening. At 6:45, strong man competitor Chad Smith will attempt to pull more than 30,000 pounds of vehicles a distance of 100 feet to benefit the Melissa ISD Class of 2018.
Days of Grey will provide live music starting at 7, and a fireworks show will start at 10 to cap the festivities. The event also will feature barbecue and backyard grillers competitions as well as food and craft vendors. The new Melissa City Hall will be open for self-guided tours at 3 p.m., and a ribbon cutting is set for 4:30. Local female military veterans are being sought to serve as grand marshals.

Lake Kiowa 4th of July Celebration

The opening ceremony kicks off at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast. Colonel Handley will commemorate our WWII veterans at 8:45 a.m., with the skydivers scheduled to jump at 9:30 a.m.
There will be entertainment by local musicians and dance groups throughout the day. Game booths and boat rides as well as a food court will be open during the day. The event concludes with a fireworks display conducted by the Lake Kiowa Volunteer Fire Department.

The Town of Little Elm will host its annual July Jubilee Celebration. The event will take place on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Little Elm Park. Activities include musical entertainment; food and merchandise vendors; and fireworks. Entertainment and vendors open at 5:00 p.m. and fireworks will begin at dark.
There will be limited on-site parking. Shuttle parking will be available at the LEISD Athletic Complex. Vendor booths available for $65 per booth. Booths with electrical outlets are limited. Electrical outlets are maximum of 15 amps - one electrical plug-in per booth. Vendors with high amperage will require two booths. Booth assignments are first-come, first-served. Rental of vendor booths can be done at Public Works Service Center, located at 1600 Mark Tree Lane, Little Elm, TX 75068, (972) 731-3296.
