More than 400 people turned out across Texoma for KXII's 7th annual blood drive Thursday.
The Texoma Regional Blood Center and the Southern Oklahoma Blood institute set up blood donation stations in six communities on both sides of the Red River, including Sherman, Bonham, Ada, Durant, Tishomingo and Ardmore.
OBI says more than 300 donors gave blood in Oklahoma. Susan Crews with the Southern Oklahoma Blood Institute says with all of the donations received at the blood drive the institute will have an ample supply of blood for the next 42 days and will also help them prepare for the upcoming holiday weekend.
While hundreds of people donated across Texoma, for one man in Sherman it was a very special day. John Schmoker's donation Thursday made 10 gallons of blood he has given over the years. He says it took him many years to reach this milestone, but he's very proud.
"I tried to make an effort to get out here as often as I could. Probably not as often as I should, but do my part in a small way, and you know it helps a lot of people," Schmoker says.
The Texoma Regional Blood Center says they saw 87 people in Sherman overall. The blood center says Texomans saved more than 150 lives with their donations Thursday.
