ARDMORE, OK -- Ardmore Dragway, together with the Slowpokes Car Club Ardmore, Oklahoma, hosts an annual Slowpokes’ Reunion on August 30-31. The event exists to celebrate the golden years of drag racing and provides fans, racers and Slowpoke members the opportunity to reminisce with old friends, fans, and fellow racers with a day of competition drag racing.
The festivities will begin on Friday night with a special nostalgia only test-n-tune/fun drag session, a cruise and poker run ending up at Hudson tire in Tiffinay Plaza where a couple of cars will “cackle,” and ‘bench racing’ where racers get together to talk about racing, their cars, and the good-old day. Friday night will be finished up by the famed Cackle Parade, Friday evening’s twilight fuel fest, where nostalgic race cars push-start and line up side by side as they all “cackle” and light up the night. It is a must see event.
Saturday festivities provide all day excitement and enjoyment for both families and racing participants. This year a Nitro Match Race will be the highlight of the event where a nostalgia top fuel dragster, “Spirit of Tulsa” will match race a fuel altered, “Crossways”. These exhibition cars will surely provide a memorable day for the spectators. The reunion includes drag racing competition similar to that of the old days under the National Hot Rod Associations guidelines and rules. Classes featured during the day include Hot Rod Eliminator, Nostalgia Super Stock, Nostalgia Electronics, Junior Fuel, and Nostalgia Eliminator. Saturday’s festivities also include a ‘Track Cruise’ or parade of nostalgic cars. The event also includes a car show and swap meet on Saturday.
