SHERMAN, TEXAS—The annual Austin College/ACCares Spring AIDS Quilt program will be held Thursday, April 10, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Living Room of the Robert J. and Mary Wright Campus Center. Local AIDS quilts will be on display. The program is free and open to the public. For information, contact Roger Platizky, Austin College professor of English and coordinator, at (903) 813-2426.
The 4:30 program will include poetry readings, prayers in various languages, and discussions about some of the issues surrounding AIDS, as well as tributes and remembrances of those who have died from the disease.
Musical entertainment will be provided from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Pouch Club of the Wright Campus Center.
Raffle ticket sales and donations received at this annual event support the Simbaradenga Newstart Children’s Home AIDS Orphanage in Zimbabwe, Africa. ACCARES sponsors this orphanage with the Callie Clinic of Sherman.
ACCares is an Austin College organization formed to make members of the college community aware of the impact of AIDS/HIV on their lives and others in the community. The group encourages students to be educated and compassionate about AIDS/HIV.
