SHERMAN, TEXAS--The Austin College Department of Art and Art History presents the exhibit, “Contours” by Isabel Farnsworth through May 3 in Dennis Gallery of Forster Art Complex (1315 East Richards Street). The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

“My artistic process is one of gathering, sorting, and assimilating my experience of the world,” Farnsworth said. “In sculptural form, I re-shape and articulate distillations of my subjective experiences. Through an intuitive process of making and unmaking, I arrive at the semi-figurative/semi-abstract elements that structure my compositions but also allow for the open-ended content I desire.”

Farnsworth said her work explores various subjective states: psychological, emotional, and physical, and that the human body is often her starting point, either through modeling, life casting, or constructing. “I am interested in creating work that speaks to both embodied and mindful experience,” she said. “The pieces emerge from the very act of making, from responding, from play, and contemplation. I use imagery, color, and sensory/tactile materials as an entry point into the layered ‘narratives’ I create.”

Isabel Farnsworth is an associate professor of sculpture at Kent State University in Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Tyler School of Art and her master’s degree from Stanford University. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Skowhegan School of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Rijksacademie Von Beelden Kuntz in Amsterdam, and the Cite’ International des Arts in Paris.
