Cruise for Kids

Fundraising events for nonprofits usually involve a lot of volunteer hours and work to plan, set-up, clean-up and run the event. One local nonprofit has come up with a fundraising event that is relaxing and fun: a cruise!

A Valentine Get Away Cruise is set to leave Houston on Feb 14, 2015. The Fannin County Children’s Center will get a donation for each cabin booked through Galyon Travel. A percentage of the first and second person in a cabin will be donated to the local nonprofit. Plus, if at least 8 cabins are booked, Norwegeian Cruise Line will donate an additional $100 per cabin to the Children’s Center.

The Children’s Center’s mission is promoting safety and improving the lives of abused and neglected children. Their programs include CASA, Children’s Advocacy Center and child abuse prevention.

“Our CASA caseload is increasing and we need to add a part-time person soon,” said Sandy Barber of the Children’s Center. “This new fundraiser will help us be able to do this so that we can continue to provide high quality advocacy for children in foster care.”

In the year ending August 31, 2013, CASA served 29 children. In just the first nine months of the current fiscal year, CASA has already served 38 children.

The 7 day cruise will have stops in Cozumel, Belize and Roatan. Inside staterooms are available for starting at $709 per person. Oceanview staterooms start at $808 and balcony staterooms begin at $1,039 per person. These prices do not include tips of $84 per person and Travel Protection of $89 per person for standard insurance or $139 per person for platinum insurance.

To reserve a cabin, a $25 deposit is required by August 23. For more information or to reserve your spot, contact Paula Galyon at Galyon Travel at (903) 583-0010 or pgalyon@cabloneone.net.
