GAINESVILLE – The North Central Texas College equestrian team is coming off one of their most successful seasons in school history and they show no signs of slowing down.
On Thursday, Gainesville’s Jordan Donnelly signed a scholarship agreement to join the NCTC equestrian team this fall.
Donnelly, the daughter of Kinzy Donnelly and Kim Ferguson-Donnelly, has been around horses her whole life. She rode her first horse at age one, and started showing horses at age three. Since then, she has built up a long list of accomplishments.
She is a three-time APHA World Champion in reining. She was an NRHA and ADHA freestyle champion. She has finished Top 5 in the AQHA three times and has been Top 10 in NRHA Non-Pro, Intermediate Non-Pro and Limited Non-Pro. She has over $138,000 in lifetime earnings with the NRHA.
She also will be participating in the Mustang Million competition in September in Fort Worth.
NCTC assistant equestrian coach Curt Donley recruited Donnelly and says getting her interested in NCTC was an easy sell.
“This was a good fit for her since she was homeschooled, plus we are becoming a national power,” the coach said.
Coach Donley’s influence, along with the school and program being right in her hometown, made Donnelly’s decision easier.
“I know Coach Donley really well, so that’s kind of why I wanted to come,” she said. “I wanted to be on the equestrian team and I thought it would be a fun experience. Plus it’s close to home. I know a lot of the girls on the team and have heard a lot about NCTC from them.”
NCTC wasn’t the only option available to Donnelly. According to her mother, she had scholarship offers from just about every school in the country including Colorado State University and Georgia Tech.
“NCTC is getting on the map big time, so it didn’t make sense to send her off far away from home,” her mother said.
