DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University has scheduled three sessions of Camp SE for the summer of 2014.
Students, parents and families may choose July 6-7, July 20-21 or July 27-28 for the overnight Camp SE experience.
Camp SE Online is available for non-traditional students and transfers.
Both overnight and Online camps are intended to offer orientation for new students. The overnight camps provide the opportunity for students to meet other new students who are transitioning into the college environment.
All new students are required to attend either Camp SE or Camp SE Online.
New students will gain an understanding of the University and its requirements. Participation in orientation is a pivotal step in connecting students with the campus community and the opportunity for academic success.
Goals of the camps include:
-- Meeting and knowing the names of at least five new people
-- Setting realistic expectations for academic achievements
-- Identifying at least five student services and resources and how to access them
-- Learning about Southeastern traditions and how to become a part of those traditions
-- Experiencing life as a college student
New students will have an overnight stay in Shearer Hall & Suites; will be paired with a Super Savage Leader (SSL) and a small team of other new students; and will participate in interactive, challenging, and fun team-building activities.
Also, they will be introduced to issues often faced by new students and resources available on campus; learn about Southeastern’s specific traditions, history and involvement opportunities; and meet a faculty member and learn about academic expectations.
Students will top it all off with meals, a T-shirt and lots of fun.
Parents and families will enjoy a casual conversational environment to learn about the University’s expectations of their students; meet with campus administrators, faculty, friends and Southeastern students; have time to visit campus offices to help prepare their students for classes to begin; and enjoy continental breakfast and lunch in the University Café.
