Dates for the Murray State College Freshman Convocation ceremonies have been set. The College is continuing a modern revival of the ceremony that began last year.
“It had been several years since we held Freshmen Convocation for our incoming students and we felt it was important to bring back that tradition,” says Murray State College President Joy McDaniel. “Completing a college degree is an important event in a person’s life. Commencement is the big celebration that marks the end of a student’s journey at MSC, but we feel it’s equally important to celebrate the beginning of that journey. That’s why we hold convocation ceremonies.”
MSC will hold two Freshmen Convocation ceremonies as a part of the College’s New Student Orientation course. In Tishomingo, convocation will be held on August 23rd at 4:00 pm inside Fletcher Auditorium. Convocation for Ardmore students will be held on August 30th at 5:30 pm in Heritage Hall. A reception will follow each event. Friends, family and community members are welcome to attend.
“Convocation simply means ‘a gathering of people,’ and that is what we want,” says McDaniel. “Last year we had close to 600 people in attendance at the ceremonies. Our faculty and staff will be on hand in full regalia to help students ring in the new school year.”
