ExxonMobil recently granted $2,000 to the Fannin County Children’s Center. McCraw Oil owners Kevin Smartt and Doyce Taylor, as well as McCraw Oil President Bill Wilson presented the check on behalf of ExxonMobil to the Children’s Center’s Board President Linda Gazaway and Executive Director Sandy Barber.
The funds will be used to purchase new laptop computers and printers/scanners for two of the Children’s Center’s staff who work with the Children’s Advocacy Center. “We are very grateful for this grant which will aide in our effort to go paperless and streamline the documentation process,” said Barber. “When our staff can be more efficient in completing required paperwork and documenting the services they provide, then they will have more time to spend directly with the children, youth and families we serve.”
The Children’s Advocacy Center is just one of several services the Children’s Center operates to benefit abused and neglected children. CASA is another program of the center which recruits and trains volunteers to be advocates for children in foster care. CASA is currently seeking more volunteers and has another training class starting on Oct 29. The Children’s Center also offers free prevention classes for adults to learn how to prevent, recognize and report child abuse. “Recognizing & Reporting” is a 1.5 hour class that will be offered on three separate times in the coming weeks at the Children’s Center at 112 W. 5th in Bonham. The free class will be offered on Oct 15 and Nov 18 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm and on Nov 14 from 12:00 – 1:30 pm. To reserve your spot, contact Tara at firstname.lastname@example.org or (903) 583-4339.
