DENISON, TX- It's a sweet day for the city of Denison as they hold their first annual Sweet Jubilee Cake and Sugar Arts Show Saturday.
Dozens strolled around the 400 block of Main street browsing through vendors and checking out merchandise. Others stayed indoors at the Mary Karam Gallery to watch cake decorating demonstrations. Cakes decorated by residents were also put on display in the gallery.
Sweet Jubilee co-creator Susan Hamilton said they put together the event to show guests what cake decorating is all about.

"To celebrate the art of cake decorating because I know it's a lot in the media and you see it all the time now on TV, but it's actually cool to see it up close and personal," she said.

WHATS THE BIG DEAL THAT EVERYONE IS INTO THE CAKE DECORATING THING. AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS IS JUST A HOBBY AS YOU CANT MAKE AND SELL CAKES. 'IT'S AGAINST THE LAW IN ALL STATES UNLESS YOU PAY THEM HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR A PERMIT, AND YOU CAN'T DO IT IN YOUR OWN HOME CAUSE ITS NOT HEALTH DEPARTMENT APPROVED APPLIANCES. ITS JUST ANOTHER WAY FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO CONTROL AN HONEST PERSON WANTING TO MAKE EXTRA MONEY. SO I STILL DON'T SEE WHAT THE BIG DEAL IS THAT ALL THIS CAKE DECORATING STUFF IS BIG NEWS. COME ON UNITED STATES HEALTH DEPARTMENTS GIVE THE PEOPLE A BREAK AND LET THEM MAKE A LITTLE EXTRA MONEY WITH OUT YOU TAKEING ALL OF IT FOR PERMITS.

I WAS NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL WITH THE SHOW. SOME OF THE CAKES WERE JUST NOT WHAT I WOULD HAVE PUT IN A SHOW. THIS IS THE WRONG TIME OF THE YEAR TO START WITH. IT IS TOO HOT AND WHO WANTS TO GET OUT IN THIS HEAT. SINCE WHEN DID CUPCAKES BECOME SO PRICY. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE BIG CRAZE IS ALL ABOUT. I MEAN ANY DUMMY CAN BAKE A CUPCAKE, PUT SOME ICING ON IT. COME ONE PEOPLE YOU CAN BUY A CAKE MIX AND FROSTING FOR LESS THAN 3.00 AND THEN YOU GO INTO SOME FANCY LITTLE SHOP AND PAY 3.00 AND UP FOR A CUPCAKE. HAVE YOU PEOPLE NOT FIGURED OUT THIS IS A WASTE OF MONEY. AND THEN YOU WONDER WHY YOUR BROKE ALL THE TIME. GET A LIFE PEOPLE.

Sorry to hear that. Next yr seeing as how you cannot predict the wind factor we will be leaving the outdoors out and just do a cake show. There were 30mph gusts sending the vendors stuff everywhere so I was disappointed in them leaving but they had to protect their stuff. However the cake show will be mapped out with lots of demo's next time. We have learned a lot for the future. As far as Denison goes we are working really hard to bring fun different things to the area. Please don't give up just show up. :)

I was a bit disappointed in the show, things were too scattered out and not mapped out, and just wasn't what they hyped it up to be... Maybe next year will be better...
