MUENSTER, TEXAS--Friday afternoon, and the Muenster city park is buzzing with activity in preparation for the first day of Germanfest. With dozens and dozens of food and drink vendors, arts, crafts, games and rides, Germanfest has come a long way from its humble beginnings.

"It started in the parking lot of the Sacred Heart Church here in Muenster and 36 years later it has grown to something that attracts over 35 thousand people in three days," said John Boyles with the Muenster Chamber of Commerce.

All those visitors have vendors clamoring to take part. Wilda Taliaferro has been operating her business for 5 years and says getting into Germanfest has been one of her goals, and expects to have lots of customers as long as the weather cooperates.

"I hope the rain stays can come next week," said Taliaferro.

Other vendors like Tim Holland have been coming to Germanfest for years; for a good reason.

"Saturday from 10 am to midnight, it is non-stop," said Holland.

With big crowds expected this weekend the City of Muenster is looking to build on its Germanfest Success planning more events in the future, and planning to hold those events in a new place.

"We do have plans for a 60 acre park site just across the highway and the main feature will be a 60 thousand square foot pavilion," said Boyles.

The gates opened at 4 pm on Friday and the fair will continue on Saturday from 10 am to midnight and on Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm.
