(SHERMAN, Texas) March 5, 2013 —The Sherman Museum today announced that Dr. Ian Thompson will be the guest lecturer at the museum’s March 22, 2013 monthly Lunch Lecture series event. Dr. Thompson will speak on “Preserving and Revitalizing the Choctaw Heritage”. The free event will begin at noon and last until 1:00 p.m.
Dr. Thompson has been learning, practicing and teaching traditional Choctaw art forms since his early youth. He presently serves as Tribal Historic Preservation Officer, Tribal Archaeologist, and NAGPRA Coordinator for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, where he works with staff and community members to protect Choctaw sacred and historic sites, research Choctaw history, and revitalize Choctaw traditional culture. In addition, Dr. Thompson is also a certified Choctaw Community Language Instructor and a bison rancher.
All friends of the Museum and interested parties are invited to attend. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.
