(SHERMAN, Texas) January 11, 2013 —The Sherman Museum today announced that it will collaborate with the Sherman Jazz Museum to present an exhibit on jazz music entitled, “JAZZ”. The exhibit will feature items from the Sherman Jazz Museum collection. The exhibit will begin January 15, 2013 and run through May 25, 2013. The Sherman Museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is: $5.00 for adults; $3.00 for seniors (60 years and older); $2.00 for students (ages 6 to 18); FREE for children (5 years and under); and FREE for museum members. Museum admission includes access to the "JAZZ” exhibition and all other temporary and permanent exhibits. The Sherman Museum is located at 301 South Walnut in Sherman, Texas.

“JAZZ” displays more than a dozen brass instruments used by such legendary jazz musicians as Maynard Ferguson, Harry James, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Al Hirt, Sammy Davis, Jr., Doc Severinson, Miles Davis, Marvin Stramm, Danny Davis, and Ray Lichtenwalter. Complementing the musical instruments is a diverse collection of album art, posters, sculptures and books related to the jazz music genre. The exhibit also features a number of audio reproduction devices used to listen to music over the years; the devices range from a Victrola phonograph player to an iPod Nano.

“We are thrilled to host this exhibition while the Sherman Jazz Museum building is undergoing renovation,” remarked Dan Steelman, Executive Director of The Sherman Museum. “The Sherman Jazz Museum has a fantastic collection that enables it to fulfill its mission of educating people about this distinctively American musical art form.” Following the exhibit, the “JAZZ” artifacts will return to The Sherman Jazz Museum’s permanent home in the historic Masonic Lodge building at 201 East Lamar in Sherman.
