Justice Is Served for Kids

FANNIN COUNTY, TX- Organizers of the eighth annual “Justice Is Served” report that early estimates are that at least $28,000 was raised from Saturday night’s event. “These funds will help us continue to provide a wide array of support services for abused and neglected children,” said Sandy Barber, Executive Director of the Fannin County Children’s Center.

Board President Linda Gazaway added “I want to express my appreciation to everyone for all of the help in making “Justice Is Served” a success. There was a lot of hard work and a lot of people pitching in to make this event happen.”

Nearly three hundred people were estimated to have attended the event at the Complex just west of Bonham. Around fifteen local judges and other officials served dinner and cold drinks to the guests.

Morgan Hopson was auctioneer for the evening. Guests bid on a wide variety of items in the silent and live auctions. The highest bid of the evening was $1,800 for two tickets anywhere Alaska Airlines flies. A chartered fishing trip for two from Orca Bay Charters in Cordova, Alaska sold for $500. A 10 lap NASCAR Driving School donated by Warrior Tire went for $400.

Mike Lane with Texas Firearms Training Academy organized the BB gun shooting contest that was called “The James Bond Challenge.” Guests paid five dollars for five shots to compete for prizes and bragging rights. Jack Hill won first place and Bob Furhman was second.

Event proceeds will be used to support the Children’s Center’s programs, which include CASA, the Children’s Advocacy Center and child abuse prevention efforts. CASA provides trained volunteer advocates for children in foster care. The Children’s Advocacy Center provides forensic interviews, counseling, court accompaniment and other support services to children who have been abused.
