Connecting Through Communication
Your conversations today with your teenage daughter will decide her tomorrows.
The fifth annual identiFYI, an event designed to equip mothers and daughters for “those” conversations is being sponsored by the Pregnancy Care Center of Texoma and hosted each year by a different church. This year’s event is being hosted by Harvest Time Assembly of God Church. This event for mothers and their 5th – 12th grade daughters is planned for Saturday, May 7 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The event promoters hope to encourage and lend ideas to help improve communication about life in general and sex specifically between generations. “When your daughter asks that hard question, knowing what to say and how to say it will make all the difference, Melva Kittrell, Executive Director of the Pregnancy Care Center said. “Knowing how to respond in the moment typically becomes an opportunity for sharing the truth, and the truth solidifies the foundation between you and your child,” she added.
Speakers are Cheryl Scruggs and her daughter, Brittany. Scruggs, a published author, speaks, on the subject of relationships. Scruggs is also a counselor and does ministry with her husband Jeff.
Lunch, t-shirt and a book are included in the ticket price of $8. Tickets can be purchased now at either the Pregnancy Care Center at 105 W. Pecan in Sherman or at Harvest Time Church at 222 S. FM 1417 in Sherman. “This will be a fun filled day that brings mothers and daughters together to enjoy food, friendship and fellowship,” said Stacia Haney, a Women’s Ministry team member at Harvest Time. “It’s a great opportunity to connect with other mothers and daughters in the same stage of life,” she said.
This event is open to the community. Youth and other church groups are encouraged to participate.
