TOM BEAN, TX-Just a few days after Girls Incorporated announced it was shutting down due to a lack of funding, another nonprofit that gives kids a place to go could be forced to close its doors, unless Texomans step forward to help. Victoria Maranan has more.

It was just over a year ago that Path 4 Life student center in Tom Bean began welcoming area kids, where they could come to hang out with friends, play music and get help with their schoolwork. But it is also a place where staff said they watched kids make positive life changes and it will longer exist if they can't raise $1,800 by Friday.

Path 4 Life director Randy Thompson said they have been struggling to keep the student center up and running, since they opened the doors in June of last year. But this time, because of the tough economy, they fell short $1,800 and they couldn't pay their electric bill.

He said he's devastated, not only because it could be the end of his dream, but for the dozens of kids who may now have nowhere else to go.

"Heartbroken. Because, like, tomorrow, if we have to close tomorrow, you know there's 30-35 kids that come in a regular basis and what are they going to do? You know? And some of them I know for sure, they don't have any good place to go," he said.

One of the student interns, Austin DeBerry, was also devastated.

"When I heard from Randy that, you know, it's in its last days, I kind of just sat there and got speechless, to be honest with you. It's heartbreaking," he said.

Path 4 Life only has until Friday to come up with the funds or they will have to close their doors. If you'd like to help, you can visit their website:

While I agree with b will derd about needing to unplug, it is imposible. A child cannot even do homework now without a computer. You check grades online, you check assigments online, you do research online. I feel for kids that do not have computers at home. With multiple kids, you almost need multiple computers.
