SHERMAN, TX-The Sherman police department hosted their second National Take Back Initiative event Saturday to give Texomans another chance to get rid of their old medicine.
Residents started pulling into the Sherman Town Center parking lot early Saturday morning to dispose of old, unwanted medication. The Sherman Police Department, in partnership with the D.E.A., had the collection as an effort to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from the area.
Captain Ken Francis said it's important to hand over the old, unwanted medication to be disposed properly.

"The can get into the wrong hands, like children. If drugs are left in the medicine cabinet, children may get a hold of them. After time, the drugs degrade and their chemical makeup and it can actually become harmful to take drugs that are too old," he said.

If you missed the collection, Sherman police is planning to host another national take back day in the spring.
