The Board of Directors of the Child and Family Guidance Center recently announced that sponsorships and tickets are available to attend this year’s Starfish Benefit on the evening of Nov. 3 at the Sherman Municipal Ballroom.
“We feel blessed to be able to tell our community and our stakeholders that last year’s inaugural Starfish Benefit was an incredible success, raising more than $45,000 to provide mental healthcare services for local children and families,” said Kelly Ashmore, president of the Board for 2013.
“The event itself was unlike any other in Texoma, transforming the Ballroom into a tropical mirage that stimulated our senses and showed us a new meaning to ‘having fun for a cause!’”
This year’s event will be even more exciting, including a live auction for vacations to Pebble Beach; a Wyoming dude ranch; a California vineyard and more. Raffle-type events include exclusive prizes such as a diamond and high-end bottles of wine.
As a nonprofit agency that offers mental health and counseling services regardless of a person’s ability to pay, the effects of such solid support are felt deeply by the local community.
“The need for mental health services, locally and nationwide, is skyrocketing,” said Brenda Hayward, executive director of the Child and Family Guidance Center. “Our Center and our therapists serve all kinds of people with so many different needs – they may come from a broken family; they might have experienced a traumatic life event; they could be a victim of abuse; they could be facing unemployment; they may need to repair a broken relationship; or they might just need to learn essential, coping skills to make it through life’s challenges.”
At this year’s Starfish Benefit, the Board intends to show appreciation to supporters of the Center and to educate the community about the life-changing services provided to those in need, regardless of their ability to pay.
In turn, the generous resources that supporters gave – before, during and after the event – have supported the Center’s ability to serve the critical needs of local children and families.
