NEW YORK - A longtime Denison couple received a very special award this weekend for their philanthropic efforts.
Lacy and Dorothy Harber received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor , an award designed to pay homage to the immigrant experience, as well as for individual achievement, in New York City over the weekend.
The Harbers, who own several businesses including American Bank of Texas, have donated generously to organizations in Texoma and around the world, and they say they have no plans to stop giving.
"It's our goal to leave one billion plus to help the children. Thank you, and God bless America," Lacy Harber told the crowd in New York when he accepted the award.
The Harbers have made multimillion dollar donations to both Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ Hospital and Texoma Medical Center, in addition to their work with disabled children.
