The Good Shepherd Community Clinic, Inc. Announces New Strategic Plan

Ardmore, February 18, 2013: The Board of Trustees with the Good Shepherd Community Clinic, Inc. has announced that they will shift from an exclusive focus on access to care to a blended approach that emphasizes quality of care and overall health improvement.

With as many as 75% of the clinic’s patients having diabetes, the clinic will adopt disease management principles and devote a considerable part of its medical care delivery to serving those with diabetes. Measures of success will include not only numbers of patients seen and visits provided, but improvements in patients’ overall health status.

Although the clinic is refocusing efforts to provide better services to meet the growing needs of its patients, they will continue to provide free medical, dental and vision services to the indigent, working poor and those who lack health care access. And, through the use of new and improved technologies patients will benefit from better service delivery as well as improved patient outcome documentation.

Dental services will be expanded and made more efficient through major upgrades in both x-ray and computerization of records and the addition of more dentists.

Both employed and volunteer nursing staff will assume a prominent role in future care planning and delivery. In following the newly adopted strategic plan, the clinic has added two full-time registered nurses Debra Hart RN, BSN, MBA/HCM, as Medical Clinic Manager and Melissa Hallum, RN, BSN as Patient Care Manager.

Debra Hart RN, BSN, MBA/HCM grew up in the Ardmore area but later moved to Phoenix, AZ. She started her medical career as a tech in a nursing home and worked her way up to registered nurse and getting her MBA in Health Care Management. She moved home to Ardmore in 2012. “When I accepted the position at the Good Shepherd
Community Clinic, I was afraid I would miss the high energy and fast-paced action of the hospital, but I feel like I am back to the grassroots of healthcare and that what we do here provides a genuine benefit to the patients we serve.”

Melissa Hallum RN, BSN comes to the clinic bringing a background in case management plus an additional five years nursing experience. As Patient Care Manager, she will assist patients with the management of chronic diseases and seek out medical resources as well as referrals to outside agencies and healthcare facilities. Along with her position as Patient Care Manager, she will serve as a Diabetic Educator to help educate patients on improving self-care to improve their overall health and wellbeing. “I am excited about my position with the Good Shepherd Community Clinic, because I know that we make a real difference in people’s lives. I want to be a part of an organization that facilitates a healthier lifestyle and promotes a positive health outcome for our patients.”
