DENISON, TX - Two veteran officers of the Denison Police Department have been promoted. The two promoted officers are Jeff Camp and Jackie Thomas. Camp was a Patrol Sergeant and is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Thomas is promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Both men are assigned to the Patrol Division.
The promotion process involves passing a written examination as well as passing a rigorous assessment board. The board is comprised of police executives and/or staff members from other police agencies.
Lt. Camp, who was born and raised in Denison and is a graduate of Denison High School, has served with the Denison Police Department over 15 years but has 24 years total experience as a police officer. Jeff holds a Master Peace Officer certification. He was previously a Patrol Sergeant where he supervised a patrol shift. With his promotion, he is now a shift commander.
In addition to being a patrol supervisor since 2003, Jeff has also served previously in the Narcotics Unit. He has been married to his wife, Krystal, for 3 years and has two daughters and one grandson. Lt. Camp was promoted effective June 16, 2012.
Sgt. Thomas has served with the Denison Police Department over 29 years. During his DPD career, Jackie has been a member of the tactical unit, a firearms instructor and worked in CID (investigations) for 13 years. Sgt. Thomas has been serving in the Patrol Division since 2006. His promotion to sergeant is effective August 6, 2012. Sgt. Thomas will be a shift supervisor in the Patrol Division.
Prior to joining the police department, Sgt. Thomas was a member of the United States Marine Corps for 7 years where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Jackie had been married to his wife Sharon for 36 years and they have a son and daughter and three grandsons.
