BONHAM TX--The Bonham independent School District is getting set to take a big technological step forward thanks to a sizeable grant.
The 800 thousand dollar grant will be shared with the Arp school district, in east Texas, which collaborated with Bonham in applying for the funds.
In all, 11 school districts across Texas were awarded the connections grant to improve technology in schools.
Bonham superintendent Sonny Cruse says the funds will go to staff development and to meeting the goal of getting a laptop computer for every student at Bonham high school.
"Gone are the days where you put everything on the chalk board and you stand and lecture, The instruction needs to be highly interactive, it needs to engage the students so, that is what technology has done the appropriate use of technology helps engage students" said Cruse.
Cruse expects to begin training teachers on how to use the new technology this semester and begin rolling out the new laptops to students before the end of this school year.
