COLLINSVILLE, Tex. -- Collinsville schools went on lockdown Friday morning, but it was all part of a plan to prepare students for a real emergency.
The lockdown drill started about 9:15 Friday morning, and it lasted just 15 minutes. School officials sent home advance notice so that everyone knew about the drill ahead of time.
"Reality is we live in a different world. Even though we're in a rural area, we have to be prepared. It’s better to be prepared than be sorry,” said Ken Kemp of Collinsville ISD.
With recent school violence around the country, school leaders are just trying to be prepared.
The district holds other drills periodically, such as fire drills and weather preparedness drills.
