Students across the Lone Star State have been dreading it. Now the time for TAKS testing is here. Texas students in elementary, middle and high schools will take the tests this week.

‘TAKS’ stands for ‘Texas Academic Knowledge and Skills’.

On Wednesday, students will take the language arts portion of the test.

Officials say the results show how well students are learning the curriculum.

But the tests are not just nerve wracking for students. Denison Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott says it affects teachers and administrators as well.

"Our students have done well in the past, and we trust they'll do well again, but it doesn’t mean you're not worried and nervous about it, because you are," Denison ISD superintendent Dr. Henry Scott says.

High school seniors must pass the test to graduate.

My grandson was taking his Taks test and into the test they realized he had the wrong test. He was singled out and taken out of the class room. The school panicked and called the state. So today while everyone else is taken the Science test he will be doing another one that he missed yesterday...and OH yes, he must take it in the principals office. The state said the school would be fined....but my grandson, who is a sensitive precious person is being singled out like HE is the criminal. NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND....BULL...This did NOT happen in the Brownwood School District where I am from, this happened in a Region IV school.

The TAKS is not only and extreme waste of time for the students, but it also causes unnecessary strain on the teaches, students, and over all any associated to it. The teachers must stop teaching the curriculum to teach TAKS, a break when there may be some kids who are behind are already dont understand and now they have to attempt to store more knowledge with the additional fact of should they not pass it they'll see it again next year or stay back until they have passed it. True some aren't made for test taking, then again you'll have some who pass, then get to college and drop out,so as to be said the TAKS, is really just a waste of money and time. In the case that a child may not pass it up into their senior year, and for whatever reason afterwards still hasnt be able to, they may have to drop out or simple get an GED, an how practical is that i have friends who have done this an few went to universities and some others colleges.I'd like to see this get more attention being a waste.

My child is an A and B student. He has NEVER made a C. He is an outstanding student, and all of the teachers comment about what a wonderful student he is to have in class. He failed the reading taks test by 2 questions the first time, and by 1 question the second time. Because of 1 question he has to go to summer school, even though he is an A and B student, and almost always gets commended on Math and Science. He will not be able to participate on the summer swim team or tennis team that he has been looking forward to. Taks tests are absolutely absurd and unfair. Thanks to the TAKS test, my child now hates school. Thanks alot!!!!!!!!!!!!
