ARDMORE, Okla. -- Kids in Ardmore are having a lot of fun at Environmental Camp on Lake Murray.

"It was awesome. It was fun because we saw snakes. Yeah she caught a snake!" one excited camper said.

About 140 Ardmore Middle School sixth graders spend three days enjoying the great outdoors of Lake Murray State Park.

Michelin Tire Company helps pay for the event, but organizers say the skills kids learn at camp are priceless.

"Hiking and map reading and GPS and things like that, so it's just an all around thing, how to exist in our environment because a lot of these kids don't get out into the woods and things, and this gives them an opportunity to do that," Ardmore Middle School math teacher Johncy Martin says.

This is the 16th year for "Environmental Camp".

What an awesome event! Michelin has done this for a number of years (16) and for some of these kids it is the only opportunity they will have to fish, go out in a rowboat, shoot a bow and arrow or learn about wildlife and the environment! It is completely paid for by Michelin and the children are chosen throughout the year by the School faculty to attend based on their attitude and performance while in school. Thank you Michelin and Ardmore Middle School. You make me proud to be an Ardmoreite and a Michelin employee! My daughter went last year and still talks about it with excitement today. Thanks and God bless!
